ODPHP supports several committees and workgroups whose efforts inform our initiatives and help us improve the health of all Americans. 

Advisory Committees

Secretary’s Advisory Committee on National Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Objectives for 2030

The Secretary’s Advisory Committee on National Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Objectives for 2030 provided recommendations to the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for the development and implementation of Healthy People 2030 objectives. The committee was made up of non-federal, independent subject matter experts.

Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee

The 2020 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee provided independent, science-based advice and recommendations for HHS and the U.S. Department of Agriculture to consider while developing the Dietary Guidelines for Americans.

Physical Activity Guidelines Advisory Committee

The 2018 Physical Activity Guidelines Committee reviewed scientific and medical evidence and prepared a scientific report with recommendations considered for the second edition of the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans.

President’s Council on Sports, Fitness & Nutrition

The President’s Council on Sports, Fitness & Nutrition (PCSFN) has played an important role in educating Americans about the benefits of physical activity and healthy eating since 1956. The Council is a federal advisory committee consisting of athletes, physicians, fitness professionals, and entrepreneurs who are appointed by the President and advise the Secretary of Health and Human Services.

National Clinical Care Commission

Between 2018 and 2021, the National Clinical Care Commission (the Commission or NCCC) evaluated and provided recommendations to improve federal programs related to complex metabolic or autoimmune diseases that represent a significant disease burden in the United States.

Workgroups

Health Literacy Workgroup

ODPHP founded, hosts, and supports the efforts of the Health Literacy Workgroup, currently run by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality and the National Institutes of Health. The workgroup represents all operating and most staff divisions under HHS and has met regularly since 2003 to help make sure that improving health literacy remains a priority for HHS.

Healthy People Federal Interagency Workgroup

The Federal Interagency Workgroup (FIW) leads the development and implementation of the Healthy People initiative along with individual workgroups of federal subject matter experts representing more than 20 federal agencies. It also helps review data and resources associated with the objectives and provides ongoing science-based and expert consultation to the Assistant Secretary for Health throughout the decade.

Steering Committees

MyHealthfinder Steering Committee

Federal representatives from across HHS meet quarterly to discuss opportunities for cross-collaboration and to provide feedback on MyHealthfinder, a prevention and wellness resource that provides users with personalized recommendations (in English and Spanish) for preventive services like screenings and vaccines.

Move Your Way® Steering Committee

ODPHP collaborates with communications and physical activity subject matter experts from across the federal government to support the continued growth and implementation of the  Move Your Way® campaign. The steering committee meets regularly to hear campaign updates and provide input on new resources and activities.
