Interventions to prevent injuries in construction workers

About this resource:

Systematic Review

Source: The Cochrane Collaborative

Last Reviewed: February 2018

In this Cochrane systematic review, researchers assessed the effects of interventions for preventing injuries in construction workers.

Researchers found that:

  • Regionally oriented safety campaigns, trainings, inspections, or the introduction of occupational health services may not reduce non‐fatal injuries in construction companies
  • Company‐oriented safety interventions, like a multifaceted safety campaign, a multifaceted drug workplace program, and subsidies for replacement of scaffoldings may reduce non‐fatal injuries among construction workers

However, evidence overall was very low quality. More research is needed to evaluate different strategies to increase employers' and workers' adherence to safety measures prescribed by regulation.
