The Community Preventive Services Task Force recommends maintaining current minimum legal drinking age laws to reduce alcohol-related crashes and associated injuries among drivers ages 18 to 20 years. These laws specify how old people need to be to buy or publicly drink alcohol. In the United States, the minimum legal drinking age is 21 years in all states.
