The Patient Engagement Playbook is designed to help clinicians, staff from medical practices and hospitals, and others use health information technology (health IT) to engage patients . It offers tips and best practices from clinicians and health systems, with chapters on:

  • Making enrollment easier
  • Activating portal features 
  • Offering accessible, understandable information
  • Allowing portal access
  • Integrating patient-generated data and electronic health records
  • Making the most of Application Programming Interface and other health IT tools
  • Improving appointments with health IT

Health IT is intended to support better communication, care, and outcomes.
