In this Cochrane systemic review, the Cochrane Collaborative found that resin-based sealant is effective in preventing tooth decay in children for up to 4 years. The review included studies that compared resin-based sealant to no sealant in children ages 5 to 10 years. There isn’t enough evidence supporting the effectiveness of ionomer‐based sealant compared to no sealant.
