Psychological Therapies for Children and Adolescents Exposed to Trauma

About this resource:

Systematic review

Source: The Cochrane Collaborative

Last Reviewed: October 2016

In this Cochrane systematic review, researchers assessed the effects of psychological therapies in preventing post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in children and adolescents who have experienced trauma.

Researchers found some evidence that psychological therapy is effective at preventing PTSD and reducing symptoms for up to a month after treatment. However, they concluded that much more evidence is needed to demonstrate the relative effectiveness of different psychological therapies for children exposed to trauma, particularly over the longer term.
