The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) recommends screening adults age 18 years and older for unhealthy drug use. Specifically, USPSTF recommends that health care providers ask people who aren't currently diagnosed with or getting treated for a drug use disorder about their drug use and that they provide access to diagnostic services, treatment, and follow-up care if needed. USPSTF found insufficient evidence to assess whether the benefits of screening for unhealthy drug use in adolescents outweigh the harms.
