Universal Hepatitis B Vaccination in Adults Aged 19–59 Years: Updated Recommendations of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices — United States, 2022

Last Reviewed: April 2022

This report updates the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices’ (ACIP) recommendation for hepatitis B (HepB) vaccination to include all adults age 19 to 59 years. Universal HepB vaccination in that age group removes the need for risk factor screening and disclosure and could increase vaccination coverage and decrease hepatitis B cases. ACIP recommends HepB vaccination for:

  • Infants
  • Children age 18 years and younger
  • Adults age 19 to 59 years
  • Adults age 60 years and older with risk factors for HepB

People who have completed a HepB vaccination series at any point or who have a history of HBV infection should not get additional HepB vaccination, although there is no evidence that getting additional vaccine doses is harmful.
