These practice recommendations address sometimes complex or controversial issues about starting and using specific types of birth control. Major updates include:

  • Revised recommendations for starting regular birth control after using emergency contraceptive pills
  • New recommendations for using medicines to make it easier to insert intrauterine devices 

The recommendations offer evidence-based guidance for reducing medical barriers for people to get and use contraception.
