Status: Getting worse
Increase the proportion of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) who enroll in special services by age 48 months
Summary
Millions of children in the United States have autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Children with ASD who get intervention services at a young age are more likely to have better language and communication skills, higher intelligence, and improved behavior. When health care providers screen for ASD at primary care visits and refer children for diagnosis and treatment, more young children with ASD get the services they need.
