Summary
Every year in the United States, thousands of infants get pertussis, or whooping cough. Although anyone can get pertussis, infants are at the highest risk of getting very sick or dying from the disease. This is especially true for infants age 2 months or younger, who can’t yet get the vaccine. Evidence shows that giving women the Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, and acellular pertussis) vaccine during every pregnancy can help protect their babies from pertussis.
