Description
The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) requires the U.S. Department of Education (ED) to collect and report on certain information on programs for infants, toddlers, and their families and of programs serving children ages 3 through 21. Section 618 of IDEA requires each state to submit data about infants and toddlers who receive early-intervention services under Part C of IDEA and about children with disabilities who receive special education and related services under Part B of the IDEA.

Methodology
Data are reported by 60 areas: the 50 states and the District of Columbia, 5 territories (American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands), 3 outlying areas (Republic of Palau, Republic of the Marshall Islands, and Federated States of Micronesia), and the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The data represent aggregated population counts; thus, specific demographic data (e.g., gender, race/ethnicity) are unavailable although some summary tables are published.
