Summary
Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are the second most common type of infection in older adults, and serious cases need treatment in the hospital. When they’re not treated early, UTIs can lead to kidney failure and even death. Teaching older adults about managing bladder problems and drinking enough fluids can help prevent UTIs — and early treatment can keep UTIs from getting serious enough that they require hospitalization.
